Contrary to popular belief, not all owls are nocturnal. Some owls, such as the northern hawk owl, are diurnal. Owls eat mostly anything from mice to rabbits, including bones. Owls are generally adapted to be silent fliers, allowing them to sneak up on their prey without anyone noticing. This is also a defensive adaptation, as owls are the most likely to be preyed upon by other animals due to their overall small stature. Some of the most famous owls are the barn owl and the great horned owl.
